Community Impact

A desire to make a difference in our community fueled a new project at Arbor Christian Academy this year.  Librarian Jodi Hooten wanted to find a way to honor our public servants and thank them in a special way.  And that’s how Community Impact was born.

“We wanted to let them know that there are people out here who recognize what they do for our community,” she said. “They need to know that people recognize the sacrifices they make and the danger they put themselves in for us.”

Students in grades 1-5 deliver a handwritten note of appreciation, along with a homemade treat, to the various departments of our city.  In September, Amarillo’s firefighters were appreciated; in November, the Randall County Sheriff’s Department received the honor.

“One of the sweetest things about the project is that the kids offer spontaneous hugs and prayers,”    said ACA administrator Nancy Wilcox. “I believe the departments of our city have been affected in a very positive way, and as an added bonus, our kids have had the privilege of serving those who serve us. It has been a win for everyone!”
